BCB mulling resuming cricket soon

Bangladesh Cricket Board director and media and communications committee chairman Jalal Younus informed that the BCB is trying to arrange a cricket series with a few countries when the coronavirus pandemic is under control.

All sorts of cricket activities have been stopped in Bangladesh since mid-March due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

A few players started individual training sessions arranged and monitored by the BCB before Eid-ul-Azha, and cricket’s regulatory body in the country is hopeful that the national team players may begin practice soon following proper health hygiene.

“We have contacted a few nations about playing the series. We want to take part in series in countries where playing cricket is safe and secure considering coronavirus pandemic. Negotiations are going on as to whether we can play away series in those countries where the coronavirus situation is under control.  Already BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury has informed that we are discussing with Sri Lanka Cricket about a possible tour. We are hopeful that this tour will take place,” said Jalal to the media Wednesday.

He also informed about the attempts of BCB behind the resumption of the country’s cricket.

“We have been planning to restart domestic cricket for the last few days. Discussion is going on how we may start cricket again. Already BCB has arranged individual practice sessions for players under strict supervision of maintaining hygiene. It was a session for us and there can be more sessions in coming days. Players who are in the national squad will be added periodically. Maybe they will return to the field soon. But there are a few factors we need to maintain like maintaining proper hygiene or social distance or ensuring players’ security, among other things. We are discussing these issues,” he concluded.
