Bangladesh’s scheduled tour of Sri Lanka has been postponed for a later date due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision from the Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket was taken Wednesday; a day after the BCB had pushed back its home series against New Zealand.
Bangladesh were scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in July for a three-match Test series, that is part of the World Test Championship.
The home series against the Kiwis in August comprised two Tests, which are also part of the WTC.
“SLC wishes to announce that the BCB has informed SLC that a conducive environment has still not arrived for its players to take part in an international cricket series, purely due to the lack of preparation for its players, caused by the Covid–19 pandemic,” said a media release from SLC Wednesday.
"Hence, BCB and SLC have agreed that Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka, that was scheduled to be held during July 2020, will not take place and will be deferred to a mutually planned later date,” the SLC media release added.
The occasion is the third for Bangladesh to postpone a scheduled series due to the coronavirus situation.
BCB had earlier called-off Bangladesh’s final phase of a three-legged tour of Pakistan.
Bangladesh were to play a lone ODI on April 1, and the second WTC match from April 5 against host Pakistan.
With rising concerns of Covid-19 infections in the country, the board in March also suspended the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League and all forms of cricket activities in the country.
