Tamim, Sabbir, Kayes sold in Afghan T20 league players auction

Bangladesh cricketers Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir Rahman and Imrul Kayes were purchased in the Afghanistan T20 league - Shpageeza Cricket League - players auction on Thursday. The Afghanistan Cricket Board is all geared up to host their IPL-style T20 league called Shpageeza Cricket League. The auction for the league was conducted comprising international cricketers from Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan and Zimbabwe, reports crictracker.com. “We have already received great response from the cricketers. This is the first time that so many international cricketers will be playing in this franchise-based league,” ACB CEO Shafiq Stanikzai said from Kabul. The tournament will witness six franchises which are all owned by Afghani industrialists. The cricketing board has already obtained the go-ahead from the West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Canada and the UAE for the league.

Although the Afghan team’s home ground is in Greater Noida, the league will be held in Afghanistan with the aim of popularising the game in the country and also to make people realise that it is entirely harmless for the international sides to compete in the country. In the auction, Bangladesh batsman Sabbir got sold for a sum of 7,00,000 AFN to GP Kabul Eagles while opening batsman Imrul went for a sum of 7,00,000 AFN to Arif Azeem BoostDefenders. On the other hand, fellow Bangladesh opener Tamim was recruited for a huge sum of 2.1 million AFN to Muslimyar Speeneghar Tigers. West Indies all-rounder Rayad Emrit was purchased for a similar sum to that of Sabbir and Kayes. Afghan cricketer Nasir Jamal was bought for a sum of 4,40,000 to the Wazirzai Mess Ainak Knights while Noorulhaq was roped in for a huge sum of 1 million AFN to Almasafi Amo Sharks. Younus Ahmadzai, on the other hand, was sold for 15,50,000 AFN to Muslimyar Speenghar Tigers.
