Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has been one of the leading forces among the cricketers to take stance and help the less privileged who have been harmed during the countrywide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic.
Left-handed opener Tamim in his latest move made contribution with Dhaka’s Mohammadpur resident Nafisa Anjum Khan.
Nafisa has been among many who have come forward in help of the struggling people in the society. A CNG driven three-wheeler stacked with daily essentials called “gifts” rushes to the needy people who contacts Nafisa over phone.
As per media reports, majority of the calls to Nafisa are from middle-class families who are struggling to make ends meet but are shy to ask for it in public.
“I was giving away gifts though my own arrangement. Bhaiya [Tamim] read a media report on my activity and reached me over phone. He wanted to know how I am working and to whom the essentials are being delivered,” said Nafisa to the media Wednesday.
“Upon hearing the details bhaiya [Tamim] asked me if I am taking any help. I told it is mainly the people I know that are helping me with the initiative. Bhaiya then said he would be happy if he could contribute but it is not possible to help in kind because of the lockdown. So he then gave me some fund and will give more [Thursday].
“With both the funds together I will arrange a giveaway to the families Friday, to those who reaches me over phone,” she added.
Meanwhile, Tamim was limited with his words when reached for comment regarding his contribution towards Nafisa’s activity.
“I spoke to her and I’m trying to help the best way I can. It is really important for us to help as many people as possible in this crucial time,” said Tamim.
Bangladesh has been in unofficial lockdown since March 26 and this has put the day earners in struggle.
Until Wednesday afternoon, Bangladesh reported 390 more people as positive for the Covid-19 virus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of infected to 3,772.
10 more people have died from the deadly virus: seven men and three women, taking the officially Covid-19 death toll to 120, to date.
