Anamul, Nurul, Mahedi run riot

Anamul Haque, Nurul Hasan and Mahedi Hasan all struck centuries as South Zone piled on the runs against East Zone on day one of the second round in the eighth edition of the franchise-based Bangladesh Cricket League in Cox’s Bazar Friday.

East decided to field first and the decision backfired horribly as South posted a huge 443 losing six wickets in 87 overs, riding on three hundreds.

It was a bit different in the morning though as South lost four wickets with only 61 on the board.

Shahriar Nafees (one), Fazle Mahmud (12), Shamsur Rahman (12) and Al Amin (18) all departed cheaply with Rejaur Rahman dismissing three of them.

Anamul and Nurul though soon took charge, crafting together a 190-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Anamul scored 129 off 155 balls, featuring 14 fours and four sixes, while Nurul was unbeaten on 155 off 220 deliveries, including 19 boundaries and three sixers.

However, following Anamul’s departure, just when East were looking to make further inroads, Mahedi joined Nurul in the middle.

Mahedi blasted a quickfire 112 off just 85 balls, with 10 fours and as many as eight sixes, adding 175 for the sixth wicket alongside Nurul.

Mahedi played the role of the aggressor as he tallied 64% of the combined runs that he added along with Nurul.

Rejaur bagged three wickets but it was scant consolation at the end of the day as East bled their runs at a rate of 5.09 per over.
