A staggering 48 sixes and 70 fours were struck in a second division 50-over cricket match, as North Bengal Cricket Academy defeated Talent Hunt Cricket Academy by 46 runs.
A total 818 runs were scored in the match, with North Bengal posting 432/4 before restricting their opponents to 386/7 at the City Club ground in Dhaka on Monday.
Of the total 48 sixes, 27 were struck by North Bengal, while Talent hunt smacked 21 directly over the boundary.
Unusual results are not uncommon in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket scene, and they are often followed by allegations of match fixing.
In one incident in 2017, a bowler was banned for 10 years after he had continuously delivered wides and no-balls to concede 92 runs and lose a Dhaka League Second Division match. His team had called the act a protest against biased umpiring.
The player had bowled 13 wides and three no-balls in the first over. All of the deliveries raced to the boundary, costing his team 80 runs.
Lalmatia had earlier been dismissed for just 88 off 14 overs, before opponents Axiom reached 92-0 off just four legal deliveries.
In October last year, suspended national captain Shakib Al Hasan said the outcome of many matches was predetermined. Many in the cricketing fraternity also raised their eyebrows regarding the issue.
