Former West Indian fast bowler Ottis Gibson is in talks to fill the vacant post of Bangladesh men’s national cricket team bowling coach.
Gibson said the negotiation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is ongoing, but the deal is far from being finalized at present.
Having recently lost his job as South Africa’s head coach, Gibson is currently coaching Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League side Cumilla Warriors. He is in touch with the BCB for the Tigers’ bowling coach position, as Charl Langeveldt recently left the post to join the management of the South African national team.
“It is a long process, but yes, we are in talks. I am interested in taking the role of Bangladesh’s bowling coach. It will be a great chance for me to work with the young pace bowlers,” Gibson told the media at BCB National Academy Ground on Monday.
The 50-year old Gibson did not have a long playing career, taking part in just two Tests and 15 one-day internationals from 1995-1999. However, after a successful county cricket career in England, he thrived in coaching roles.
He joined the England team as bowling coach in 2007, before taking charge as head coach of West Indies. After leaving that job, he rejoined England as bowling coach once again, before becoming head coach of South Africa.
