Bangladesh U19 cricket team will depart from Dhaka today for the ACC U19 Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka starting from September 5. According to the Bangladesh U19 skipper Akbar Ali, the side finds inspiration of having played the finals of the Tri-nation youth ODI series involving India and hosts England. Bangladesh in the series last month qualified for the final as the table toppers but conceded six-wicket defeat against their Indian counterpart.
“We had only lost the final in that series [Tri-nation series in England]. We had a good tournament otherwise. We had qualified for the final as the table toppers but unfortunately lost the game. I believe we had a successful series in all three departments,” said wicket-keeper batsman Akbar to the reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
“We had wins against teams like England and India that will definitely boost the team going not only into the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka but also in the World Cup [ICC U19 Cricket World Cup]. But then again the condition there [Sri Lanka] is totally different. So we will have to quickly adapt to it and look to perform in the best possible way,” the Bangladesh U19 captain added.
