Here are the excerpts:
You played with the destructive Sir Viv. Do you think he'd have been as dangerous in T20s today as he was in his prime?Sir Viv Richards would be destructive in any era in any form of cricket. He was the master blaster. One of the best batsmen I have ever seen. And he would dominate no matter whether it is T20s or one-day internationals or Tests.
You were a teammate of the legendary Lara and played against champion cricketers like Tendulkar and Waugh. Who do you think is the best?Could not tell you who is the best. I played with Brian, not much against him. But I can say Lara was a genius. And the rest of the two guys; (both) of them had special qualities. Steve Waugh fights with guts and determination and Tendulkar also did the same with elegance. It is really hard to say which of these three was the best. They were three great cricketers. Actually all three were genius. I could never single out one of them.
You were one-half of one of the finest bowling partnership in the late 1990s alongside Curtly Ambrose. You two picked up a combined total of 421 wickets from 49 Tests. How was your understanding with him?He understands the game very well. He was a genuine fast bowler. It was always a special friendship and bond between us. Even when we were both competing for a single space available in the team, it did not bring any unwanted situation between us. We just decided to play. There was a time when we played for one Test spot in the playing XI. It was either him or me. We both went out for that spot and enjoyed and appreciated each other. Later we played together and enjoyed our time for the West Indies. We worked out what's the best thing to do (in) any game situation.
Thanks to this bowling pair, many a batsman had to spend sleepless nights
INTERNETYour ESPNcricinfo profile states that you were probably the fastest pacer around during your time. How did you keep that up?I was strong, something I practised. A lot of running, steps and body weight exercises. I knew my body, I did sit-ups, press-ups. I went to the gym later on in my career, but just light weights. I conditioned my mind and body the right way. Relax a bit in the water, swim as much as I can. Once it's strong enough, then you stretch and bowl. You gotta be strong to bowl long. Longer spells. And that's what I had conditioned my mind to do. I always saw myself bowling long spells and the longer I bowled sometimes the better I bowled. So it was combination of both.
There are not many fearsome Windies fast bowlers right now in world cricket. What do you think is the reason? There are quite a few fast bowlers for the West Indies right now like Jerome Taylor, Kemar Roach etc. But yes, may be, fast bowlers are not coming as before. There might be many reasons. Probably wickets these days are lot slower which (discourages) fast bowlers. And lot of guys are responding to the (shorter) formats of the game.
