All-roudner Mohammad Saifuddin had an injury concern before this match as he pulled his muscle during practice. It was expected that Rubel Hossain or Abu Jayed Rahi will have a chance if Saifuddin don’t play.
In the end the team management decided to give rest to Saifuddin and picked Jayed ahead of Rubel. It was a debut for Jayed as the pacer becomes 131st player to play one-day International for Bangladesh.
Abu Jayed has played five Test matches and 3 T20Is before his ODI debut. The right-arm pacer has the ability of swinging the ball in both ways and it was a good chance for him to shine with the ball at Malahide. Although the pitch was batting friendly but seamers could get help early due to strong wind at Malahide.
Bangladesh bowlers bowled well in the first innings to restrict West Indies for just 247. But Jayed failed to take any wicket and finished the day conceding 56 runs off nine overs. Perhaps he was under pressure as some recent reports suggested that he might be replaced by Taskin Ahmed in the final squad for Bangladesh for the World Cup.
In the end, it was an unimpressive debut for Abu Jayed.
