North Zone win Youth one-day cricket league

North Zone emerged victorious by 11 runs over East Zone in the final of the Walton Youth One Day cricket league at the Shahid Kamruzzaman stadium in Rajshahi on Tuesday.

Batting first, North Zone scored 219/8 in their allotted 50 overs while in reply East Zone managed 208 before losing all their wickets.

Saidur Rahman Paramanik of North Zone was adjudged man-of-the-match for his bowling figures of 10-0-28-5.

His bowling did the bulk of the damage to the East Zone batting line-up as they stumbled to 149/9 and a big defeat was looming.

The last batting pair of Abu Bokkor and Mehedi Hasan took East Zone however showed a rearguard action with a 59-run last wicket stand but that was not enough to snatch a heroic victory.

Mehedi was the last batsman out, scoring 32, while Abu remained stranded at the other end on 28.

North Zone’s batting was based on two fifties from opener Anik Sarker (51 runs from 81 balls) and middle-order batsman Meherab Hossain (61 runs from 64 balls) to help them reach their game winning total.

For East Zone, they lost top order wickets regularly as Alvi was the only batsman to score significantly as he top-scored with 59.

Avishek Das of East Zone was adjudged the best bowler of the tournament as he took seven wickets giving away just 132 runs in his 26 overs bowled.

 Alvi Haque of East Zone won the best batsman of the tournament award as he scored 211 runs in four games with an average of 52.75.

Alvi would also go on to win the player-of-the-tournament award for his all-round efforts as he also bowled 13 overs taking 2/44.
