Moments of the day, 1st Test, Day 1: Subashish's costly no ball and Liton's keeping

Subashish’s costly no ball

Subashish Roy drew first blood for Bangladesh when the right-arm pacer picked up the key wicket of the experienced Upul Tharanga in the sixth over. It could have been a great start for the Tigers as the paceman went on to take the wicket of Kusal Mendis in the very next ball. But TV replays showed that Subashish had overstepped and the delivery was called a no ball. The frustration only grew for Bangladesh as Mendis scored an unbeaten 166 at stumps. The top-order batsman anchored the innings for the Lankans and stitched together a vital 196-run partnership alongside Asela Gunaratne for the fourth wicket, thus taking the momentum away from Bangladesh.

Liton’s wicket-keeping

It was a memorable day for Liton Kumar Das as he officially took charge of wicket-keeping from Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim on Tuesday. The keeper was impressive as he grabbed some good bouncers from the Bangladesh pacer bowlers. The catch he took off the bowling of Subashish was brilliant, but it was eventually called a no ball. On the other hand, it was must have been a different scenario for Musfiq, who is playing the Test as a specialist batsman. Mushfiq fielded at various close-in positions on day one - cover, mid off and mid on.
