Left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam grabbed seven wickets while all-rounder Shuvagata Hom scored a century in another match in the second day of their National Cricket League matches on Tuesday. Meanwhile, two other matches off the fifth round could not be started even in the second day due to inclement weather.
Rajshahi Division’s Sunzamul, who grabbed 9-80 in an innings last year, ended with 7-69 to dismiss Rangpur Division for 336 before their batsmen ended on 64-2 at stumps at Cricket Garden, Rangpur.
Meanwhile, in Shaheed Chandu Stadium, Bogra, Shuvagato scored 106 that helped Dhaka Division posting 386 in their first innings in reply of Dhaka Metro’s 59. Metro, who declared in the first innings with a paltry total despite having two wickets in hand, ended on 59-2 in their second innings at stumps.
While in Barisal Divisional Stadium, the match Barisal Division and Khulna Division was washed out for two consecutive days without even the toss being held. The same fate occurred in the match between Chittagong Division and Sylhet Division at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground, Cox's Bazar.
Rajshahi v Rangpur
Rangpur resumed the day on 230-5 with overnight batsman Naeem Islam and Dhiman Ghosh not out on 63 and 13 respectively. The pair stretched continued smoothly and reached 307 before Sunjamul created a collapse to fold the innings quickly. The 28-year old spinner dislodged Dhiman for 57 before his fellow left-arm spinner Shafiqul Islam bowled Nayeem on 89 and reduced Rangpur to 311-6. Rangpur skipper Sajedul Islam remained not out on 23 but Sunzamul curtailed the tail picking up last four wickets in quick time. In reply, Rajshahi lost both their openers Myshukur Rahman (three) and Sabbir Hossain(one) quickly but Junaid Siddique and Farhad Hossin stedied the ship as they remained not out on 35 and 19 respectively.
Dhaka Division v Dhaka Metro
The first day of the match was overwhelmed by a strange declaration of Dhaka but Metro’s Shuvagata, who resumed on nine, stole the spotlight by scoring 106 runs and reaching his 10th first-class hundred. He made a 157-run fourth wicket stand with another overnight batsman Taibur Rahman before the latter was bowled off Arafat Sunny for 56. The wicket brought another one as Shuvagata was dismissed two balls later in the same score before Metro bowlers bundled the opponents out under 400 runs. With a heavy 327-run first innings deficit Metro found themselves with an awkward position at stumps, still trailing by 268 runs but their opener Shadman Islam, highest scorer of this year’s NCL till date, remained not out on 26.
