Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) teams, except Chittagong Vikings, have submitted their players’ retention list to the BPL Governing Committee for the upcoming season of BPL 6.
The deadline of submitting the players’ retention list for BPL franchisees was September 30. According to the decision of BPL GC, each team can retain only four players from their previous squad for the upcoming season, including local and foreign.
Chittagong Vikings have not submitted their players’ retention list on time. Minhajul Abedin, who was the advisor of the team during the last year, informed that the team was working on that and they will submit the retention list within few days.
“We are having some issues about submitting the list. The team is working on it. Hopefully within two-three days there will be an update on the issue,” said Minhajul.
Surprisingly Rajshahi Kings have released their last year icon player Mushfiqur Rahim from their squad. They have retained Mustafizur Rahman, Mominul Haque, Zakir Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
According to Rajshahi Kings CEO Tahmid Azizul Haque, Mushfiq was released from the squad in order to maintain the team combination.
“We have retained these four players considering our team combination. Mustafizur Rahman is our A plus category player this year. So we had to release Mushfiq,” said Kings’ CEO.
BPL 5 champions Rangpur Riders have retained Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Chris Gayle, Nazmul Islam Apu and Mohammad Mithun.
Last year runner-up Dhaka Dynmites have retained Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, Rovmen Powel and Kieron Pollard.
Khulna Titans have retained Mammudullah Riyad, Ariful Haque, Nazmul Islam Shanto and Carlos Brathwaite.
Comilla Victorians have retained openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes, all-rounder Mohammad Saifudidn and Shoiab Malik.
However, Sylhet Sixers have retained only three players- Sabbir Rahman, Nasir Hossain and Sohail Tanvir from their last year’s squad.
The next edition of the BPL will start from January 5 and end on February 8. The BPL is usually held in November-December but the change was made keeping the national election in mind. The upcoming national election is likely to take place by the end of December
