Hopeful Tamim available for selection

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has nothing to worry about with regards to his preparation for the Asia Cup, despite his delayed arrival in the UAE.

The left-handed batsman arrived in Dubai Wednesday morning after a four-day delayed departure from Dhaka.

Complication over visa had denied Tamim, along with pacer Rubel Hossain, from traveling with the team.

The delayed travel had given birth to concern regarding Tamim's preparation, considering that the opening batsman was also not practising, due to an injury on his right index finger.

It is understood that the team management had planned to get Tamim back to the nets in Dubai to ensure enough rest.

The plan was jeopardised by Tamim's delayed travel and he had to take to the nets in Dhaka alone while waiting for confirmation of the e-visa.

Despite a full day-off Thursday, Tamim, along with all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and youngster Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the two other Bangladesh cricketers carrying injuries, trained under the supervision of head coach Steve Rhodes.

"There's still pain, but if I am careful in fielding drills, I am hopeful I can play. I am available for selection," said Tamim to the media in Dubai Thursday.

Two-time finalist Bangladesh will start the Asia Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in the tournament opener at Dubai International Cricket Stadium Saturday.

The Tigers in Pool B will play their second and the final game of the group stage against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi Thursday.
