During the recent India tour, it was learnt that Joshi was on the verge of becoming the Tigers' spin bowling consultant for the Sri Lanka series. But Akram confirmed that Joshi’s inclusion in the coaching staff will only be decided after the Sri Lanka series.
“We talked with him (Joshi) during the India tour. He had informed us that he might join us for the Sri Lanka series. But now, he has pushed back the time, due to some ongoing negotiation regarding his contract. So we will not consider him for the Sri Lanka series,” Akram told the media in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.
“We will decide after the series as to how we will use him. He can work for the academy or the High Performance Unit or for the national team,” said Akram.
Joshi has played 60 ODIs and 15 Tests for India. The slow bowler was a key part of India’s win in Bangladesh’s inaugural Test match, back in 2000.
Bangladesh are scheduled to leave Dhaka for Sri Lanka this Monday for two Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is.
