Tigers begin World Cup mission against South Africa

The ICC has approved the fixture for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, set to take place in England and Wales. The ICC in a board meeting Thursday confirmed the fixture for the next world event, alongside other vital agendas. The decision came within a day after a cricket-based website revealed the fixture that was prepared in the ICC CEC (chief executives’ committee) meeting Wednesday before being forwarded to the ICC board meeting for approval. Bangladesh will start their campaign in England against South Africa at The Oval on June 2 and finish the league phase against Pakistan at Lord’s on July 5. “It’s always an exciting moment ahead of any major event to announce the schedule and for the ICC Cricket World Cup, it’s that extra special. Next summer fans around the world will be treated to compelling and competitive cricket as the best teams in the world go head to head in this round robin format for the right to be crowned world champion,” said ICC CEO David Richardson in a media release Thursday.

As per the fixture, the 10-team World Cup will begin on May 30 with host England facing South Africa at The Oval. The two semi-finals will be played on July 9 and 11 in Manchester and Birmingham respectively while the final will take place at Lord’s on July 14. As per the highly criticised newly placed format, all the teams will play each other once. Bangladesh in their second game of the tournament will face New Zealand on June 5 and England on June 8. The Tigers will then lock horn with Sri Lanka, the West Indies, Australia, Afghanistan and India on June 11, 17, 20, 24 and July 2 respectively. The top four teams from the group will progress to the knockout stage.
