Mushfiq: I'll be happy to let go multiple roles

It has been a long time now that wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiq is being questioned for his captaincy and also his skills behind the stumps. The issue gained temperature right after the home series against England at home in October-November last year. The latest round of criticism came during the one-off Test match against host India that ended Monday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. In Hyderabad, Mushfiq came under the line of fire for his leadership moves which failed to impress many in the BCB. That he missed an easy stumping chance of India's stumper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha, then on four, only added to the criticism. A reprieved Saha went on to score an unbeaten 104-run knock to guide India to a massive total in the first innings. Mushfiq however, more than made up for the mistake when smashed a brilliant, match-saving 127-run innings. Many believe relieving Mushfiq from captaincy and the wicket-keeping job will allow him to relax and give full time to do what he does best – bat for the team. Mushfiq is considered one of Bangladesh's best batsman and many think his average will only get better if he were to relinquish one or both of the roles. “Firstly, I do not understand how I can be one of the best batsmen in the team with a Test average of 33-34 (34) runs. If I am given two or three jobs it means the board has faith in me. It is my responsibility to execute all the three jobs properly. If I am not doing the given jobs well, they (the board and the management) can take a decision,” Mushfiq told the media Monday. Mushfiq, who registered his fifth Test century in Bangladesh’s maiden Test in India, explained that he enjoys his three roles – batsman, wicket-keeper and captain - as it maximises his stay on the field. “The jobs keep me busy in the field and I love doing them. Despite that, if anything happens, there are options available to do these jobs. But if you ask me personally, I love and enjoy all my duties in the team. But then again, being or remaining the captain is not in my hands. The board can always analyse and come to a decision,” said Mushfiq.
