BCB was looking into the options when they came across the name of Joshi and offered him the job in the sidelines of the ongoing one-off Test match between host India and Bangladesh in Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The post went vacant after Ruwan Kalpage got sacked in August last year. The former Sri Lanka spinner had failed to report for duty. It is understood that former leg-spinner and current India head coach Anil Kumble had placed the suggestion of Joshi to the BCB. If everything goes according to plan, Joshi will join the Tigers before their tour of Sri Lanka later this month.
Joshi, who was busy with his Assam team recently, is on his way to Hyderabad for a meeting with BCB officials on Saturday evening. BCB president Nazmul Hasan, cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan, along with a few other influential directors, are currently in Hyderabad.
It is understood that BCB's proposal is yet to be accepted officially by Joshi. Joshi is travelling to Hyderabad for discussions with the BCB.
Joshi has played 60 ODIs and 15 Tests for India. The slow bowler was a key part of India’s win in Bangladesh's inaugural Test back in 2000.
