Shivnarine Chanderpaul runs out son in a domestic game

Father and son playing a rare instance especially in the modern day cricket as a very few players are carrying on playing the game late into their age. However, the former West Indian legend, Shivnarine Chanderpaul is blessed to play along with his son regularly in the professional cricket, reports crictracker.com Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of Shivnarine, represents Guyana in the West Indies’ domestic competition, same as his father. The father-son pair batting together was probably telecasted worldwide for the first time during the ongoing Super 50 tournament. Tagenarine and Shivnarine batted together in the West Indies’ domestic first-class competition in the last season where both scored fifties in an innings after putting on a 38-run stand. In the ongoing 50-over domestic competition, the father-son pair batted together in the semi-final game against Windward Island at Coolidge.

The Guyana openers Tagenarine and Chandrapaul Hemraj walked out to chase 287 for a place in the final. Hemraj’s dismissal in the very first over brought Shivnarine to the crease. The father-son pair put on 13 runs in 3.5 overs before a straight drive from Shivnarine Chanderpaul was stopped by the bowler Ryan John in his follow through. In the process of saving four runs, John got his boot against the ball which went on to hit the stumps. Tagenarine, at the non-striker’s end, was caught short of this crease when the ball dislodged the bails. As a result, Tagenarine had to walk back for a run-a-ball 12 with his father indirectly having a role in his dismissal.

Shivnarine hit four boundaries in John’s next over which yielded 18 runs to put his team on the track. However, the 43-year-old fell for a 38-ball 34-run knock that included four fours and two sixes. Guyana crashed out of the tournament having bowled out for 231 in 44.2 overs in pursuit of 284 in 47 overs after a rain break cut down three overs and the target getting adjusted by the DLS method. Earlier, Tyrone Theophile’s 104-ball 107 helped the Windward Islands to post 286/7 on the board. Tagenarine, the Junior Chanderpaul featured in the 2014 Under-19 World Cup where he scored 293 runs in six innings to end as the 5th highest run-getter in the tournament. The 21-year-old made his FC debut in 2012/13 season only but the ongoing season is his maiden limited-overs season for Guyana. Shivnarine, on the other hand, is permitted with Lancashire (in County) and his home team Guyana since his retirement from International cricket.
