Sheikh Jamal, Brothers keep winning in DPL

Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Brothers Union registered their second consecutive win in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League season 2017-18 defeating Agrani Bank Cricket Club and Prime Bank Cricket Club in their respective matches Sunday. Meanwhile, Legends of Rupganj picked up their first win of the season beating Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited. Eight half-centuries were recorded in the three matches played on the day while Mohammedan left-arm fast bowler Qazi Onik registered his maiden List A five-wicket haul.Rupganj v MohammedanA joint effort by the bowlers allowed Rupganj to record their first win of the season as they beat Mohammedan by 62 runs in Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium. Chasing 232, Mohammedan were restricted to 169 in 44.3 overs. Left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain led the Rupganj bowling attack with four wickets to cut short Mohammedan’s chase despite the traditional Black and Whites getting off to a good start. Mohammedan captain Shamsur Rahman scored 34, the highest of the innings. Earlier, Rupganj, asked to bat first, saw opener Abdul Mazid hit 70 off 115 deliveries. With an unbeaten 45 from No 6 batsman Avishek Mishra and another 40 by the veteran Tushar Imran, Rupganj scored 231 losing seven wickets in their stipulated 50 overs. Left-arm pacer Onik was on a roll with five wickets.Brothers v Prime Bank Brothers bowlers triggered a batting debacle by the opposition to secure the game by 24 runs at BKSP. Invited to bat first, rising on captain Alok Kapali’s 79 off 67 deliveries and right-hander Yasir Ali’s unbeaten 69, Brothers posted 294 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Seamers Delwar Hossain and Ariful Haque bagged two scalps each for Prime Bank. In pursuit of the target, despite three fifties in the innings, Prime Bank failed to reach the destination due to fall of wickets in regular interval. Kapali took three wickets while spinner Sohrawardi Shuvo and pacer Khaled Ahmed notched two each for Brothers to end Prime Bank’s chase on 270 in 47.4 overs. Lower-order batsman Nahidul Islam scored 88 while youngster Zakir Hasan and foreign recruit Junal Chandela made 50 each for Prime Bank.Sheikh Jamal v Agrani BankSecond win in as many matches pushed Sheikh Jamal to third position in the points table as the side recorded a 28-run victory against newly promoted Agrani Bank at BKSP. All-rounder Tanbir Hayder scored 71 while foreign recruit Digvijay Rangi added 58. Right-arm pacer Shafiul Islam bagged four wickets for Agrani Bank. Later, a joint effort by the Sheikh Jamal bowlers restricted Agrani Bank to 266 in 49.1 overs.
