Cremer: Any team can win tri-series

Zimbabwe cricket team captain Graeme Cremer believes any team among host Bangladesh and visiting sides Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka can win the tri-nation ODI series, which starts Monday. Zimbabwe set foot in Dhaka Friday and were scheduled to play a practice match at BKSP against BCB XI but due to their late arrival, the warm-up game was canceled. Cremer however, informed that they are well aware about the condition. “I think it is not ideal but we have all played in Dhaka enough, the conditions won’t be too different than what we have seen in the past. Couple of sessions [Saturday] and [Sunday], we will have a fielding session under lights [Saturday]; it will be new for our younger guys but for our more experienced guys it shouldn’t be an issue. Those are the guys who will look to win us games,” Cremer said to the media during their arrival press conference at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Saturday.

“I think it is very close to call about who can win the series. Each team have their ways of playing one-day cricket, all three teams have good spinners. I think it will come down to which team field the best; I think it is close to call. Each team, on their day, can beat one another. It will be a very good tri-series, I think,” he added. Zimbabwe have a poor record in Bangladesh as they have lost quite a few series against the Tigers. But the leg-spinner believes Zimbabwe are a better team now that they can make their mark in the series. “It is sometimes a tough place to tour, Bangladesh. They play so well in their home conditions. We feel we have got a team of youth and experience. Guys have played here long enough. We know the Bangladesh players better. We will take confidence from the Sri Lanka series. I think we are better equipped this time around,” Cremer concluded.
