Tamim: Lucky I don’t have to play against Chittagong

Comilla Victorians captain Tamim Iqbal light-heartedly said he is happy that he will not have to face his hometown franchise Chittagong Vikings at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium in the port city as Comilla have contested both their matches against the Vikings in BPL 2017. Tamim played for Chittagong Kings in the first season of the BPL. In the second season, he featured for Duronto Rajshahi. In BPL 3, the left-hander turned out for Chittagong. But this year, the Chittagong lad is playing for Comilla. “I am lucky as I don’t have to play against Chittagong. I am a local boy here and I will get support from the people here. It’s a great thing that the fans of Bangladesh only support good cricket,” Tamim said to the media after their practice session at ZACCS Thursday. The in-form Comilla are leading the points table after winning five games in a row to earn 10 points in six matches so far. But Tamim believes there is no chance of resting on their laurel as they don’t want to lose momentum in this stage of the tournament. “I think the final four will be decided after the results of a few more matches. The BPL has reached its half-way stage. The equation of the points table can be changed any time as it depends on the result of the matches. Those who are at the top of the points table, it is a kind of a relief for them as they have performed well till the half-way stage. What I can say about my team, we’re playing really well, we want to carry the momentum and go the same way. At the end of the day, it’s cricket and anything can happen. For this, we don’t want to lose momentum. We are playing match by match and want to continue it,” the 28-year old said. “I don’t think there is any chance for relaxation. Cricket is a game of great uncertainty. We played tremendously well in the last five matches but there is still chance that we may not perform well in the next three games. Our coach is very upstanding and told us to carry the momentum. “Every team is thinking about the championship and we are not different. We have made a team to become champion. But if we think about it from here it will be difficult for us. First of all, we have to qualify for the top four and then we have to reach the final. Only then can we think about the championship. Each team is thinking in the same way,” concluded Tamim.
