BCB not waiting for Hathurusingha

BCB president Nazmul Hasan informed that they are not waiting for the return of Chandika Hathurusingha as Bangladesh head coach. Rather, the board is waiting for him to answer as to why he resigned. It was learnt that Hathurusingha submitted his resignation letter during Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa last month. Hathurusingha is yet to return to Bangladesh and submitted a report regarding the tour, and the reason for his resignation. Now it seems there is no chance of retaining him as head coach technically, but the BCB wants more clarification from him. “It is hard to comment why he chose to resign. We have to talk with him and listen to his opinion. He told our CEO [Nizamuddin Chowdhury] that he will come a few days later. We are not waiting for Hathurusingha’s return. We are waiting for his report. He said he will submit the report within two-three weeks. We need to know why he resigned,” Nazmul told the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Monday.

“As I said earlier, we will not force him to stay. But we need some explanation. We have to know why he chose to resign suddenly, despite being a professional coach. If he chooses his home country Sri Lanka without any specific reason, that’s a different case. But we have to find it out from him. “I don’t think it was pre-planned by him. Hathurusingha was planning about the next World Cup after the first Test match against South Africa. But after the second Test, he submitted his resignation. Probably something happened at that time and he took a decision,” he said. BCB has not decided yet on the selection of the new head coach. As the tri-nation series and the Sri Lanka series are looming in the horizon, scheduled for January next year, BCB may opt for a local coach temporarily.

“We have not decided on the new coach yet. Many candidates are contacting with the BCB and we are discussing a few options. If we aren’t able to find any coach before the Sri Lanka series then we will definitely try for a local coach. We have Khaled Mahmud Sujon, who has a great chance in that regard,” the BCB boss informed. There are some rumors circling around regarding a few problems between the coach and the senior players. But the BCB chief denied such claims. “Coach’s problem with senior players type of news always come out in the media. But personally I can say, I have seen no such problems in the last few years. I have heard nothing from Mashrafe [bin Mortaza], Shakib [al Hasan] and Tamim [Iqbal] regarding any problem. [Mahmudullah] Riyad has no problem with anyone. May be some statements from Mushfiqur [Rahim] were an issue. Such things happened in the last series as well. But still I believe it was not a problem,” he concluded.
