“Honestly we also want the players to get a remuneration which is worthy of their performance. But what is happening now is some cricketers are not being practical. This has surely upset some of the clubs thus they are requesting the board to have the ‘players by choice’, in order to keep the value of the players under control. The league has to take place but the final decision on the issue will come from the board (BCB),” said Samiul Azim, manager of premier league side Kalabagan Krira Chakra. The players by choice system in the Dhaka League has been under criticism since it was first introduced in 2013. The cricketers have always been vocal against the system and had argued of it depriving the players from earning their true value. The BCB after much discussion last season had ruled out the controversial system and allowed the Dhaka League clubs to rope in players directly - the traditional way. “I have said this many times already, the players by choice in the Dhaka League drastically cuts down their seasonal payment from the clubs. Now if a club cannot afford a player, I think it is wise not to go after that particular cricketer and look for affordable alternative. But given the situation, a final decision is to come from the board and the league will take place the way it is decided,” said Gazi Group coach Mohammad Salauddin to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mohiuddin Billan, in-charge of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis informed that the board has not yet decided anything on the issue. “The season is long away. Yes, there might be discussion ongoing on the upcoming season among the clubs and the players but we (CCDM) did not have any meeting yet,” said Mohiuddin.
