“There are differences between cricket now and how it was nine years ago for Bangladesh. The team have improved vastly, they played a lot of Tests as well as ODIs and T20Is. These players have given us a lot in the last few years. We believe that we will do well as we have performed consistently in Tests for a year,” Minhajul told the media in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Minhajul is of the opinion that the tour will be challenging as most of the times, the sub-continent teams face hardships to play against South Africa away from home. “Our style of cricket is completely different from South Africa’s. All of us have one notion about the conditions in South Africa. We have to play on bouncy and fast tracks. It is obviously a challenging series for us. We have played consistent cricket in the last one and a half years and hope to do the same in South Africa,” the chief selector explained. “We will play on a fast paced and bouncy wicket over there. Our top order has the capability to perform well. I am hopeful that they will soon return to their run-scoring form.

“We have a preparation match there. We have an opportunity there to adjust quickly. Before that, we have a four-day practice session starting from this Sunday. I think, our players are capable enough to adjust there. Hopefully they can get results this time as well,” he added. There was some speculation that after Shakib, Tamim is planning to take a break from the South Africa ODIs. But Tamim has not informed this to the BCB yet. And Minhajul informed that he knows nothing about the matter. “We have no idea about it. We have selected the Test squad. We will announce the ODI squad during the Test series. Tamim has not informed anything regarding this to us,” he concluded.
