BCB to hold AGM, EGM on September 30

The BCB is set to have its Annual General Meeting and Extraordinary General Meeting on September 30 this year. The BCB in a meeting on Monday took the decision, given it has now received a copy of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the “amendment of constitution of the board” issue. The SC in July this year ruled BCB’s appeal to hold right to amend its constitution. Headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, a three-member bench of the Appellate Division passed the order after disposing an appeal filed by the BCB and National Sports Council. The appeal was filed against a High Court verdict.

The verdict had declared an amendment to the BCB’s constitution, made by the NSC, illegal back in January 2013. The HC that year termed the amended BCB constitution illegal, citing reasons that the NSC did not hold the authority to make the change. This was after a writ petition was filed by cricket organisers Yousuf Jamil Babu and Mobasher Hossain. “We had a few important decisions to make from which we have decided to hold the AGM and EGM on September 30. A committee has been formed to do the needful for the AGM and EGM. Enayet Hossain Siraj, Mahbub Anam, Ismail Haider Mallick, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury are the members of the committee,” informed BCB president Nazmul Hasan to the media on Monday. The board has also decided to make a Tk two crore donation for the flood victims from the fund that was allocated for the BPL T20 2017 opening ceremony.

BCB had cancelled the plan earlier but decided the amount of the contribution on Monday. The BCB has already participated in aiding the victims earlier this week with relief products. “We will not have any opening ceremony for BPL. We have already visited a place with relief products for the flood victims and [Monday] approved budget for more relief,” said Nazmul. “At the same time we have decided to hand over Tk two crore to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The board has decided not to have any opening ceremony in BPL this year, rather use the fund for the flood victims,” the BCB boss added.
