Bangladesh women to face SA, Pakistan in 2017 WC Qualifiers

Bangladesh women’s cricket team have been placed in Group B of the 2017 World Cup Qualifiers. International Cricket Council on Monday announced the schedule of the qualifying tournament that will run from February 7-21 at four venues in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Alongside Bangladesh, South Africa, Pakistan, Scotland and Papua New Guinea make up Group B while Group A comprises Asian champions and former World Cup finalists India, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Thailand. Each side in the Qualifiers will play four matches in the first round, following which the top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage. In the Super Six, the teams will carry forward points they earned against each other in the first round. The top four sides following the conclusion of the Super Six, in which each team will play three matches against sides from the other group, will complete the eight-team line-up for the 2017 World Cup. The sides finishing in the top four of the Super Six will join defending champion Australia, host England, former winner New Zealand and reigning World Twenty20 champion the West Indies in the World Cup. England and Wales will hold the world event from June 26 to July 23. The ICC gave out the qualifying schedule with 50 days to go to the Qualifiers. The tournament will bring together 10 sides in their quest to claim four remaining places in the event proper.
