U-19 WC prep begins today for junior Tigers

As part of their preparation for the forthcoming 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup, the junior Tigers will lock horns with their seniors in the first of four one-dayers today. Bangladesh will host the 16-nation tournament which begins on January 27.

The second match of the four-game one-day series will be held this Monday with both the clashes taking place at Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium. The remaining two matches will be played at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium this Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

The senior side will feature established cricketers like Saykat Ali, Rony Talukdar, Shamsur Rahman, Marshal Ayub, Mohammad Shahid and Mehrab Hossain Jr among others.

The U19s on the other hand are fully prepared to give a good account of themselves following a week-long training camp in the coastal town of Cox’s Bazar. There, the junior Tigers played in match-situations at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium under the supervision of head coach Mizanur Rahman Babul.

“We had a good camp there. The boys worked really hard to be honest. We had match-situations practice there along with skills practice. Our intentions were to get the players acquainted with the conditions and the wickets and we have been pretty much successful,” Babul told the media yesterday.

If everything else falls into place, the West Indies U-19 side is expected to reach Dhaka on January 8 for a three-match one-day series. The first game of the series will be played in Cox’s Bazar on January 11 followed by the second and third matches on January 14 and 16 respectively at Chittagong’s ZACS.
