Tamim, Dilshan fifties propel Vikings

Unbeaten half-centuries from Tamim Iqbal and Sri Lankan Tillakaratne Dilshan guided Chittagong Vikings to only their second win of the 2015 Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 as they thumped Sylhet Super Stars by a comprehensive margin of 10 wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port-city yesterday.

Sylhet earlier posted a modest 139/9 from their 20 overs, riding on a blistering half-century from Shahid Afridi.

Sylhet were in all sorts of trouble after being asked to bat, losing Dilshan Munaweera (four), Nurul Hasan (six), Ravi Bopara (11), Mominul Haque (nine) and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (nought). But “Boom Boom” Afridi changed the scenario completely and smashed four huge sixes and five fours to score the highest 62 off just 41 balls, rescuing Sylhet on their way to a decent total.

In reply, Tamim smashed his third fifty of the tournament and remained unbeaten on 67 from 51 balls with the help of eight fours while Dilshan registered his first half-century, remaining not on on 67 off 46 balls, featuring three sixes and six fours.
