An all-round performance saw England lift the five-nation International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Twenty20 Tournament for People with Physical Disabilities after they beat Pakistan by 19 runs in a high scoring final at BKSP yesterday.
England, who lost to Bangladesh on the tournament’s opening day, cruised to a big total (175-4) on the back of some clean hitting from Gordon Laidwan and Callum Flynn. Opening the batting for the English side, Alex Hammond scored 30 before Flynn, who was later named as the Best Batsman and the Player of the Tournament, hammered eight fours to score 45 off just 29 deliveries. He was ably supported by Laidwan who made 40 from just 28 balls.
Bowler of the Tournament Fayyaz Ahmed, Abdullah Ejaz and Jahanzaib took a wicket each for Pakistan who started their run chase in an aggressive mode. However, Rehan Gani’s 36 remained the highest score for the Asians as Pakistan were restricted to 156 for seven with Man of the Final Fred Bridges bagging four wickets for 24 runs.
On Tuesday, hosts Bangladesh secured the third place in the event handing India a comprehensive seven-wicket defeat.
