Bouncy wickets are the need of the hour

In a bid to prepare sporting wickets in both international and domestic matches in Bangladesh, BCB chief selector Faruk Ahmed sat in a discussion with the Grounds Committee yesterday where both parties exchanged views and observations for the betterment.

Home teams in the international arena usually prepare a wicket that suits them and the chairman of the BCB grounds committee Hanif Bhuiyan said they are looking to close the gap of communication between the curators and the selectors which will help the former prepare pitches favouring the Tigers.

“I have been looking to discuss these issues since I took charge of the position. I had previously discussed this with the selector and the board president and found there is a communication gap. So we spoke with all the grounds’ in-charge all over Bangladesh and also shared views with the chief selector on how the wicket should be prepared,” said Hanif.

Faruk also urged the grounds committee to prepare genuine bouncy tracks for the domestic competitions and said, “We are trying to bring a drastic change in the domestic competitions, starting with the National (Cricket) League.”

“We have asked for sporting wickets, whether there is grass or no grass on the pitch we have demanded for genuine bouncy tracks where the bowlers will get the assistance along with the batsman. However, it’s difficult to maintain these sort of pitches in our conditions but we are trying to re-structure these things.”
