Bangladesh taste first defeat, England open account with 23-run win over India

Hosts Bangladesh fell to a 20-run defeat (Duckworth/Lewis method) against Pakistan in the five-nation International Committee of the Red Cross Twenty20 Tournament for People with Physical Disabilities yesterday.

In the other match on the day, England registered their first win of the tournament, clinching a 23-run victory (D/L method) over India.

Bangladesh v Pakistan

Taking first strike, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals in a rain-interrupted affair at BKSP Ground 4.

Top-order batsman Amin Uddin top-scored with 33 from 44 balls while Dhrupam Tirtha, hero of the opening match against England, scored 22 as the home side were bundled out for 112 in 19.2 overs.

Man-of-the-match Fayyaz Ahmed picked up 4/11 from his four overs while Nihar Alam and Rao Javed bagged a couple of wickets each for the visitors.

Chasing 113, Pakistan made a flying start with opener and captain Hasnain Alam scoring an unbeaten 39 off 27 balls, featuring eight boundaries. By the end of the sixth over, Pakistan managed 48/1 when rain halted proceedings. The tourists were declared the winner of the tie according to the D/L method.

England v India

A brilliant 80-run opening association between Alex Hammond and Gordon Laidwan enabled England to 150/4 from their allotted 20 overs at BKSP Ground 3.

Hammond, who was adjudged player-of-the-match, was the highest scorer for the victors with 41 while Laidwan added 36. Top-order batter Jamie Goodwin smashed a quickfire 29-ball 33 at the death overs to propel England to a handsome total.

In pursuit of 151, India scored 53/3 in 11 overs when rain played foul again. India’s Krunal Phanse was undefeated on 24 as England were declared the winner, by a margin of 23 runs, in accordance with the D/L method.
