Four-member security team ready to visit Pakistan

Despite several acts of terrorism in Pakistan recently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is still hopeful over the national women’s tour of the terror-stricken country. The BCB is apparently keen on sending a four-member delegation to assess the security situation in Pakistan.

“The chief security consultant of the BCB, along with three government officials, will visit Karachi and Lahore. However, I cannot disclose the names at the moment but we are thinking about sending a four-member delegation,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed the media yesterday.

Cricket’s governing body in the country however, is unwilling to play any matches in Karachi.

“We have already informed Pakistan about sending our security team. Whenever they finalise the tour dates, we will send the security team. Pakistan have requested us to play in Karachi but we are preferring Lahore,” he added.

According to Nizamuddin, the BCB is giving utmost importance to the security issue and only after assessing the security situation, the board is going to take a final decision on the tour. At the same time, the BCB will also be in touch with the Bangladesh Embassy in Pakistan.

The Bangladesh women are expected to play three ODIs and a Twenty20 international in the tour, scheduled to begin on August 31 this year and end on September 11.

Before that though, Salma Khatun and her troop will take on South Africa in a home series, scheduled for next month. Bangladesh will play five ODIs and three T20Is against their South African counterparts.
