Tigers, Proteas reach port city for series decider

Bangladesh and South Africa cricketers have reached Chittagong yesterday where they will take on each other in the one-day international series decider tomorrow. After clinching the two-match Twenty20 international series, the visitors dismantled the home side’s confidence in the first one-dayer before the Tigers roared back with an equal effect to keep the series alive on Sunday.

The match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) tomorrow will also mean the return of international cricket to Chittagong after around eight months. The last time Bangladesh played in the port city was an ODI against Zimbabwe in November 2014 which the home side won.

A lucky ground where they have fruitful results in the past, Bangladesh will be keen to stretch the record and in the process claim their third bilateral one-day series trophy in three months.

Meanwhile, the fact that the win on Sunday sealed Bangladesh’s appearance in the eight-team Champions Trophy in 2017 will ease the pressure off the Tigers.

Gong back to his home town, Tamim Iqbal will surely be looking forward to get some runs under his belt ahead of the first Test between the sides that will be played at the same venue from July 21.

Mahmudullah’s composure in the middle and Soumya Sarkar making his knock count also restored the stability in the batting line-up.
