Bangladesh women's cricket team left here for Thailand on Thursday to take part in the Women’s Asia Cup. The tournament will be played in the Twenty20 format and Bangladesh will be hoping to display good cricket under the new captain Rumana Ahmed and coach David Capel.
Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and hosts Thailand will participate in the competition where the women in red and green will take on India in the opening game at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok on Saturday. The grand finale will be held on December 4.
According to Bangladesh skipper Rumana, their main target will be to beat India in the first game which will in turn help them to progress further in the tournament.
“We have improved a lot and our main target will be to beat India. I am hopeful that we can be able to reach the final of the tournament,” Rumana told the media.
Bangladesh are yet to beat India so far in three one-day internationals and eight T20Is but Rumana is confident they can turn the tables this time around.
“You never know. We can surprise any team as this side have the ability to come back in any situation. There will be no weak teams as every side are strong. We are not taking ourselves as a weak team. We have worked hard on our batting. Our six-seven batters are in very good touch so hopefully, our batting department will click in the right time,” she said.
