Du Plessis wary of unknown Bangladesh

South Africa’s Twenty20 captain Faf du Plessis expects a tough competition from the hosts as he believes Bangladesh can prove costly with their new look side.

During the pre-match post conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday, Du Plessis informed that sometimes its the unknown facts which proves to be dangerous especially in the shortest format of the game.

“The nice thing about the Bangladeshi team at the moment is the new guys are coming through and that especially sometimes in T20 cricket can be dangerous, because its the guys you haven’t seen or played against and T20 cricket is a lot shorter. You don’t have two overs where you as a batsman have a look at the bowler and then try to play him differently. You have to make decisions a lot quicker. Sometimes the unknown is also very dangerous,” he said.

This will be the first time the Proteas take the field after their disappointing World Cup semi-final exit in March as the 30-year old skipper said this transition period is a new beginning for South African cricket. Their start was bright and fast as they beat the BCB XI comprehensively by eight wickets in the lone warm-up game in their tour on Friday. However, Du Plessis is aware that their job won’t be made easy against the national team.

“Pretty good to have a good start but we also appreciate that their main side will be a lot harder to face and there will be competition. And so yesterday (Saturday) was just a basic practice session for us. We got the things that we wanted to get out of the way like adjusting to the heat, so it was a pretty good day but we are not too blazed knowing that tomorrow (today) will be a lot more difficult,” he said.

The dashing right-handed batsman who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, hinted of promoting AB de Villiers to the top while he is also most likely to field three seamers and two spinners.
