BCB firms up media guideline

The Bangladesh Cricket Board, through an internal notice, has reminded its contracted cricketers and all the staff to follow the media protocol very strictly. In the notice circulated yesterday by Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the BCB asked all its members to seek permission from the board’s media department before making any comments to the press. They have also been asked to refrain from posting any messages in the social media which might harm the image of the BCB.

BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Younus explained the board’s reasoning behind the move to Dhaka Tribune yesterday. He said, “We have not barred anyone from talking to the media. We just want them to ask for permission from the BCB’s media department before talking to the press. This will help us keep track of what is happening in the media.

“This (talking without permission) is a kind of indiscipline, I think. First of all, one should just comment on his own particular working area and secondly, they should do that with formal permission from the media department. So, there has to be some discipline.”

Recently, national head coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s comments in the media regarding team selection during the 2015 ICC World Cup irked chief selector Faruk Ahmed and BCB cricket operations committee chairman Naimur Rahman a great deal.

In reply, Naimur termed Hathurusingha’s comments “immature” and claimed that the Sri Lankan had breached the board’s protocol. Naimur had also warned Hathurusingha over his future conduct.
