A dominant Dhaka Tribune clinched the maiden title of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Community Media Cup Cricket 2015 following a convincing 24-run win over Channel I in the final at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium yesterday.
Batting first, Tribune registered 85 on the board from their allotted six overs with opener Atikur Rahman leading the way with 25 runs. Tribune’s guest cricketer, Bangladesh opener Shamsur Rahman chipped in with 24.
In reply, Channel I were only able to manage 61 from their stipulated six overs. Atikur, who had a stellar tournament, was adjudged the man of the final while Bangladesh Protidin’s guest cricketer, former national captain Mohammad Ashraful was rewarded with the man of the series award. Earlier on the day, Tribune defeated online-based news portal The Report 24 by 10 runs in the semi-final. Asked to bat first, Tribune posted 86, riding on the back of openers Atikur and Shamsur, who crafted good starts in almost all of the matches. The Report 24 fell 10 runs short as they ended their innings on 76.
Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club president Manjur Kader and BSJC president Asif Iqbal were present among others on the occasion.
