Tigers fitness camp starts from today

The two-day fitness camp of the 23-member Bangladesh preliminary squad ahead of the home series against India will get underway today under the supervision of national team trainer Mario Villavarayan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

The cricketers after the fitness camp will join their respective Bangladesh Cricket League sides for the last-phase of the longer version tournament.

However, ace all-rounder Sakib al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal will not take part in the fitness camp and the BCL. The dynamic duo have been advised to take rest ahead of their home series next month, informed the national team management.

Swashbuckling batsman Tamim, however, will be present today and tomorrow and work individually on his needs. He is in the second phase of his three-week rehabilitation from a knee injury.

Shakib was allowed to skip the fitness test keeping in mind the number of matches he played in last two months. He returned from India after playing couple of matches for IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders to represent Bangladesh in the home series against Pakistan before again returning for KKR’s last two league stage game.

Following a short break after the BCL, the preliminary squad members will begin their skill training from May 29. Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha will arrive from Australia on May 28.

Two times world champions India will set foot in Dhaka on June 7. The series will start with the lone Test match at Fatullah from June 10-14.

The three-match ODI series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium will be played on June 18, 21 and 24 respectively with a reserve day allocated for each ODI.
