No surprise in Tigers prelim squad

Bangladesh Cricket Board yesterday announced a 23-member preliminary squad for the upcoming bilateral home series against India starting next month. The short series comprises a solitary Test and three one-day internationals.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque returns to the side after recovering from a right shoulder injury sustained during Bangladesh’s 2015 ICC World Cup Pool A match against Scotland in Nelson on March 5.

Young paceman Mustafizur Rahman, who had an impressive Twenty20 international debut against Pakistan in Mirpur on April 24, received his maiden call-up in the squad while openers Liton Kumar Das and Rony Talukdar were also named in the 23-man squad.

All-rounder Abul Hasan and right-arm paceman Mohammad Shahid, who toiled hard in the deciding Test against Pakistan in Dhaka in the absence of the injured Shahadat Hossain, also retained their place in the national side.

The Tigers will face the visiting Indian side in the lone Test at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, from June 10-14. The five-dayer will be followed by three ODIs on June 18, 21 and 24 respectively in Mirpur.
