Imranur building momentum with season-best timing

Bangladesh’s fastest man, Imranur Rahman, continued his preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games by clocking a season-best 10.15 seconds at the Stratford Speed GP3, a World Athletics-ranked competition held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park warm-up track in London on Sunday.

"It's very nice to be out there competing without fear, post huge surgery and time off," Imranur told Dhaka Tribune after the race.

"I'm enjoying competing and looking forward to bigger things. It would be great to deliver something for our country and even run a personal best at some point!" he added.

The UK-based sprinter finished fourth in the highly competitive race.

Earlier, on June 27, Imranur clocked 10.31 seconds to win gold at the Welsh Athletics Senior Open Championships 2026.

After winning gold in Wales, Imranur once again demonstrated his strength and consistency by finishing fourth at the Stratford Speed GP3 with another impressive performance as he continues to build momentum ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Imranur retained his status as Bangladesh's fastest man after winning the men's 100m title at the 49th National Athletics Competition 2026 at the National Stadium in Dhaka in May.

Representing Bangladesh Navy, he clocked 10.58 seconds to claim the title.

The time bettered his previous winning mark of 10.64 seconds, which he recorded in the men's 100m at the 17th National Summer Athletics Championship 2025 at the same venue in August last year.

Imranur's personal best remains 10.11 seconds, set in the 100m at a competition held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London in September 2023.

Earlier that year, he created history by winning gold in the men's 60m sprint at the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

It was the first-ever medal won by a Bangladeshi athlete at an Asian-level athletics championship.
