Bangladesh’s fastest man Imranur Rahman ran a bit short of his personal best as the United Kingdom-based sprinter saw the exit door from the preliminary round Saturday.
Running on Heat 6 track, Imranur clocked 10.73s to finish his men’s 100m race at Stade de France.
He ranked sixth out of eight athletes in the heat.
Imranur would have progressed to the next round had he taken his time even close to his personal best.
The top two sprinters of the heat – Arturo Harmodio of Panama and Sicobo Dylan of Seychelles - took 10.34s and 10.51s respectively for qualification while Imranur’s personal best was 10.11s.
In swimming, Sonia Khatun was far away from the top 16 of the heats who made it to semi-finals and thus Bangladesh’s campaign at the Paris Olympics ended in a similar fashion like the past.
At La Defense Arena, Sonia finished 64th out of total 79 participants in the women’s 50m freestyle event.
She placed sixth out of eight swimmers in Heat 3 with a timing of 30.52s.
In the same event at two World Championships in recent times, Sonia clocked 30.95s in Qatar this year and 30.49s in Japan last year.
A total of five athletes participated in the 2024 Olympic Games including archer Sagor Islam, shooter Robiul Islam and swimmer Samiul Islam Rafi.
All of them departed from the preliminary stage.
