Dhaka Tribune's Shishir Hoque runner-up in exclusive report category at BSPA awards

A special story by Dhaka Tribune staff reporter Mazharul Hoque Shishir, on the late legendary athlete Shah Alam and his family’s financial troubles, won the runner-up award in the exclusive report category at the Bangladesh Sports Press Association awards in the capital Friday.

The sprint legend's life was cut short at the age of 28 following a tragic road accident that left his wife Afrosa Begum clueless with three little daughters and a son in the womb, and no income source.

After the untimely death of legendary athlete Shah Alam, the only Bangladeshi to become the fastest man of South Asia twice, the government took a decision to allocate a house to his family 33 years ago which however, is yet to come to fruition.

Shishir shed light on the remarkable yet ultimately tragic story of Shah Alam, one of the country’s greatest ever athletes, and his family’s financial plight over the years.

Sports journalists were rewarded in eight categories for the year 2023.
