I first met Adrienne Germain in 1974 at the UN Population Conference in Bucharest, where she invited me to be a panelist in a day-long program at the NGO Forum to highlight the centrality of women's role and agency in population policies and programs. She was then working at the Ford Foundation's women in international development program. I was pleasantly surprised to meet a young woman nearer my age -- she was 27 and I was 30 -- and discovered that we shared similar values, concerns, and mission though we came from different continents. Over the years we collaborated on many common causes. She remained my close friend, like a sister till she passed away in May 2022.
