U-19 World Cup wining skipper Akbar tests positive for Covid-19

The U-19 World Cup wining skipper Akbar Ali tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

According to Rangpur District Sports Association, three days ago, the cricketers had to undergo Covid-19 test for the ongoing National Cricket League at Rangpur Cricket Garden.

In the test, three cricketers –Akbar Ali, Nayeem Islam and Alauddin Babu – were diagnosed with the deadly virus. The next morning, the three players had to undergo the test again for confirmation.

The second time, only Akbar Ali tested positive for the virus while the other two tested negative, confirmed Dr Kamruzzaman, chief health officer of Rangpur City Corporation, around 8pm on Monday.

On February 9, 2020, Bangladesh won their first ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup title after defeating reigning champions India in the final at Potchefstroom, South Africa.
