State minister wishes sports journalists on Sports Journalism Day

On the occasion of World Sports Journalism Day, State Minister for Youth and Sports Jahid Ahsan Russel conveyed his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all sports journalists of print, electronic and online media of the country.

The World Sports Journalists Day is observed on July 2 every year to recognize the contribution of sports journalists in promoting sports.

In a congratulatory message, the state minister said the role and importance of sports journalism in the modern world are immense.

“Sports journalists and writers are the eyes of the sport, voices of people. Sports journalism and sports are closely linked. One cannot be imagined without the other. I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all the sports journalists of the country on the World Sports Journalism Day. I believe that the sports journalists of Bangladesh will continue their efforts to elevate the game of the country through sports journalism,” said Russel.

“Even during the coronavirus disaster, sports journalists are carrying out their responsibilities at the risk of their lives by maintaining their highest professionalism. Several journalists have already died in the line of duty. I pray for the forgiveness of their disembodied souls. At the same time, I wish those who are sick with the coronavirus a speedy recovery," he added.

Recalling the continuous unique contribution of sports journalists in the development of sports in Bangladesh, the State Minister for Sports said, “Bangladeshi sports journalists are now roaming across the country beyond the borders. They are working as ambassadors of the country's sports arena to the outside world. I am deeply grateful to all the sports journalists in the country. I wish them overall success.”

World Sports Journalists Day was established by the International Sports Press Association in 1994 to mark the 70th anniversary of its foundation.
