IGCC’s musical soiree

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre has organised a musical soiree of Rabindra Sangeet, featuring performances from Sutapa Chakrabarty, and a tabla recital performed by Pandit Parimal Chakrabarty from India, at the Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, in Shahbagh on August 19 at 6.30pm. Being inspired by her parents in early childhood, Sutapa Chakraborty star learning how to play the sitar at the tender age of five, under the guidance of Smt Dipti Chanda, and later from eminent sitarist Sri Satyanarayan Mondol. Sutapa Chakraborty learnt Rabindra Sangeet under the tutelage of Sri Prasanta Sengupta, a renowned Rabindra Sangeet artiste and a senior disciple of eminent artiste Sri Subinoy Roy. A regular artiste of All India Radio and Kolkata Doordarshan, Sutapa Chakraborty has performed with well known artists in different parts of India. She has also done extensive research on Rabindranath Tagore and Rabindra Sangeet. One of the leading tabla players in India, Pandit Parimal Chakrabarty started exploring the hidden joys of music from the tender age of four, under the guidance of his father Sri Nikhil Chandra Chakrabarty. Later, he got the opportunity to take talim from Late Ram Dhrube and Late Padmabhushan Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh. Since 1976, he was under the tutelage of versatile tabla maestro Late Pandit Shankar Ghosh, a doyen of Farukkabad Gharana. He stood first in the All India Radio Music Competition from Kolkata and thereafter became an “A” grade artiste of All India Radio. He has participated in more than seventy National Programmes of All India Radio and Doordarshan, including tabla solos and Akashvani Sangeet Sammelans. He has given performances at many major events in India, as well as abroad, with well known artists. He has worked with several music labels including HMV, Times Music, T-Series and Bihaan Music.
