Shows of Legend of the Loom

A documentary film titled Legend of the Loom, presenting the history and evolution of the world famous muslin fabric, will be screened on August 12 at the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka at 6pm, and on August 13 at the EMK Center at 6pm.
The 43-minute long documentary provides a comprehensive glimpse of history of muslin weaving and the dire situations of the successors of the rich tradition. Drik-Bengal Muslin, a project by Drik with the aim to revive the lost glory of muslin, produced the documentary.
Narrated in English by Mita Rahman, the documentary is an outcome of a research conducted by Saiful Islam, the author of a book titled Muslin: Our Story. Saiful Islam also presented it.
Directed by T9fx, the documentary also shows the search for an extinct special cotton plant which was the raw material of the finest muslin produced in Dhaka. The phuti karpas, muslin’s unique cotton plant which grew on the banks of the Meghna and its tributaries, are believed to be extinct today.
