American comedian, television host, and author, Stephen Colbert, is known for his deadpan comedy around the world. Colbert’s signature show, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, experienced a ratings renaissance after the 2016 election as he became one of the most popular television satirists of Trump and his administration.
The comedian is now all set to expand his political comedy to an animated realm, eyeing to produce an animated series focused on President Trump, his family and his top West Wing associates.
Showtime made the announcement on Thursday and ordered 10 episodes of the untitled half-hour show.
“I know a lot of people wanted to do this, and I’m honoured that the Cartoon President invited our documentary crew into his private world,” Colbert said in a statement. “I’ve seen some of the footage, and I look forward to sharing the man behind the MAGA,” Colbert said referring to Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
Tim Luecke, the creator of the animated version of Trump, which has been often featured in Colbert’s late-night show, will be the lead animator on the Showtime series.
The series will revolve around the two-dimensional avatars of President Donald Trump and his family members. Described as a fresh, cutting-edge comedy, the yet-to-be-titled series will present the “tru-ish adventures of Trump’s confidants and bon vivants — family, top associates, heads of government, golf pros, and anyone else straying into his orbit — intrepidly exploring their histories and their psyches, revealing insights into what makes them so definitively Trumpian.”
According to Showtime, “It’s a workplace comedy where the office happens to be oval; it’s a character study in search of character, as seen through the eyes of an imaginary documentary crew.”
Production will ramp up quickly and wrap close to the premier date, in order to enable the show to stay relevant with current events and Trump’s continuing antics, confirmed sources.
